Share Your Story

Everyone has a story. Our lives and the culture of our communities are shaped by our unique experiences and our histories. But too often the beautiful, ordinary stories that comprise our everyday lives are never shared because they are eclipsed by those that are deemed the most sensational or newsworthy.

We strive to change that. Created by The Public Theater, the Public Record Story Portal collects and amplifies stories from communities throughout the United States in order to inspire conversation, artmaking, and connection.

We hope that you will take a few minutes to share your stories, your truths about your community and your life, and that you will take the time to listen to others'.

Your story will be included on story maps created by The Public Theater and the Be Here: Main Street project, a partnership with the Smithsonian Institution and the MuseWeb Foundation, and may be used to inspire artistic or civic projects for years to come.

ABOUT THE PUBLIC THEATER:

THE PUBLIC is theater of, by, and for all people. Artist-driven, radically inclusive, and fundamentally democratic, The Public continues the work of its visionary founder Joseph Papp as a civic institution engaging, both on-stage and off, with some of the most important ideas and social issues of today.

Conceived over 60 years ago as one of the nation’s first nonprofit theaters, The Public has long operated on the principles that theater is an essential cultural force and that art and culture belong to everyone. The Public’s wide breadth of programming includes an annual season of new work at its landmark home at Astor Place, Free Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, The Mobile Unit touring throughout New York City’s five boroughs, Public Forum, Under the Radar, Public Studio, Emerging Writers Group, Public Works, Public Shakespeare Initiative, and Joe’s Pub.

Since premiering HAIR in 1967, The Public continues to create the canon of American Theater and is currently represented on Broadway, in London and around the country by the Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Their programs and productions can also be seen nationally and internationally across the country and around the world. The Public has received 59 Tony Awards, 170 Obie Awards, 53 Drama Desk Awards, 54 Lortel Awards, 32 Outer Critic Circle Awards, 13 New York Drama Desk Awards, and 6 Pulitzer Prizes. publictheater.org
